Wedding Photographer: Cadenabbia, Bellagio & Vassena, Lake Como: Dick & Shia

Amy was the wedding photographer in Cadenabbia, Bellagio & Vassena, Lake Como, Italy for Dick & Shia’s wedding.

I always get excited about going to Lake Como. I know it so well having photographed many weddings all around the Lake and was super-excited to be going twice over the next two weekends. The first trip was for the wedding of Dick & Shia and in order to fit it in I had to fly from Naples to Milan having only just photographed the Sorrento wedding.

Dick & Shia are the most fabulous Dutch couple who had planned a wonderful day around the Lake. After getting ready in Bellagio, they hopped across the Lake on boats for the ceremony in the Anglican Church of Cadenabbia: a church with an impressive golden altar that I know so well. Dutch tradition means that the cake cutting comes immediately after the ceremony, then we jumped on the ferry and I had some time with Dick & Shia in Bellagio. After photographs, 10 minutes drive to the little village of Vassena and to the reception which took place in a family member’s private home – and what a home! Incredible views of the Lake and a perfectly placed terrace and swimming pool. Sheer luxury!

Take a look:

People had put together some lovely memories for Dick & Shia.

Shia’s crazy about Christmas and so every guest gave her a homemade decoration! Dick got cigars instead.

Huge smiles all day long.

Just chilling out.

Wedding Photographer: Lake Como – Villa del Balbianello & Lido di Lenno, Italy: Karl & Sarah-Louise

Amy was the wedding photographer at Villa del Balbianello & Lido di Lenno, Lake Como, Italy for the wedding of Karl & Sarah-Louise.

I am so, so lucky to visit the beautiful places that wedding photography takes me to and to be witness to some of the most magical, romantic moments in some of the most magical, romantic settings on earth. It’s almost impossible to choose my favourite venue given that a Castle in Tuscany differs so much from a Villa on the Amalfi Coast, a top Hotel in Rome and the stunning gardens alongside the Italian Lakes. However, if I was forced to choose my favourite wedding venue then this would be it: Villa del Balbianello, Lenno, Lake Como.

Karl & Sarah-Louise married underneath the stunning ivy-covered loggia on the 9th of September. Since Villa del Balbianello is on a peninsula, we accessed it by boat and it offers all-round views up and down Lake Como. Each blade of grass looks like it has been cut individually with a pair of scissors and the Villa itself is nothing short of breath-taking.

After the ceremony at Villa del Balbianello we had a fun boat-ride around the ‘corner’ to the Lido di Lenno: a funky, little Moroccan-style bar with its own beach and marquee.

Sarah-Louise got ready at The Grand Hotel Brittania Excelsior in Cadenabbia. Having just her Mum & Dad there made for a very relaxed pre-ceremony time:

Confetti – not just ordinary confetti however! Sarah-Louise’s mum had saved this from her own wedding 30-odd years ago. She’d decided back then that if she ever had a daughter, she would throw this confetti for her on her own wedding day! Here we go:

I was so pleased that the weather behaved after such a couple of stormy days prior to the wedding. As always I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Lake and can’t wait to start processing the rest of the images. If you’re looking for a Lake Como wedding photographer check out the Italian Lakes guide on my main site. Next stop – Tuscany for Tom & Claire!

Wedding photographer: Cadenabbia & Lido di Lenno, Lake Como, Italy: Rick & Lucy

Andy & Amy were the wedding photographers at Cadenabbia & Lido di Lenno, Lake Como, Italy for the wedding of Rick & Lucy.

A beautiful hot day greeted us in Lake Como for Rick & Lucy’s wedding on the 31st August.  They were married in the stunning Church of the Ascension at Cadenabbia and then we all hopped onto boats (some a fair bit faster than others!) to their reception venue at the Lido di Lenno.  It’s a tough life being a wedding photographer sometimes eh?

Here are some of the highlights:

If you’re looking for an intimate reception venue – seriously consider this place.  It’s stunning – and a little bit different ;)

For some reason, ties are often a drama for the guys – certainly to get them all looking the same ;)

Amy took this whilst travelling at some speed over the wake of other boats (I’m on the one in the background with half of the guests).  Trying to stay standing, travelling into full, bright sun makes it a difficult shot to pull off.  I think she had a few attempts at it, got this one and then had to sit down!  Italians drive boats like they drive cars :)

When we have the opportunity, we love to do something different with the wedding party.  Before everyone asks us to do this, consider that we need the right balance of guys/girls, a decent location with space and great light and a little bit of time.  Finally, everyone has to be willing!  We love how this one turned out  :)

As I said earlier, it’s a great venue with lots of interesting spaces!

Thanks everyone for being so hospitable and kind on the day – it makes our job a genuine pleasure.  We’ll be back with the next wedding which was in the UK shortly afterwards:  stand by Andrew & Fiona :) – Andy

Wedding photographer: Cadenabbia & Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy: Pete & Simone

Andy & Amy were the wedding photographers at Lake Como in Cadenabbia & Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio, Italy for the wedding of Pete & Simone.

OK – I’ve rummaged through our shots from Pete & Simone’s wedding and quickly selected a few that show a little of what their day entailed. I haven’t had time to work anything so they’re all pretty much as shot out of camera. The main venue for the day was the stunning, 5-star Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio, Lake Como. Here’s a snap that I took just to show the main lounge area. My lens was no where near wide enough to show the full scale of this room – this is probably half of it at most.

So, some images from the day: firstly, as normal in pretty Italian villages, cobbles make walking in heels quite difficult. But as it’s so clean, the girls had the right idea.

Simone leaving her room – this is untouched straight from camera.

Once everyone was ready for the ceremony, it was time to jump on some private boats for the trip over to Cadenabbia where a gorgeous little church awaited. The guests & groom had the larger of the two boats and the bride followed on some 30 minutes later in something a little quicker :) Here we are now inside the church mid-ceremony.

After the service, the families & friends departed on their own boat for an hour’s tour of the lake.

Pete & Simone (along with Giselle & Matt to help) enjoyed a brief boat journey and then headed back to the Hotel for some photographs before meeting up with their family & friends again. That’s the Hotel again in the background.

I’ve fast-forwarded past the reception drinks, meal, speeches etc., to the end of the evening now! La Divina Commedia is a fabulous, quirky bar in the town which the couple hired to host their night party. I’ve quickly selected one image to give you an idea of how it’s a little differently decorated to most bars :)

We were shattered when we left at 1.30am but we had the most amazing time with an amazing group of people. Thank you all for your friendliness and hospitality. Can we do it all again? :) – Andy
