Wedding Photographer: Umbria, Italy – Assisi, Castello di Petrata: Andrew & Natalie

October 7th, No comments

Amy was the wedding photographer at Castello di Petrata near Assisi in Umbria, Italy for Andrew & Natalie’s wedding.

Andrew & Natalie got married high up in the hills behind Assisi at the stunning Castello di Petrata on a beautiful, sunny but rather blustery day. This venue really does have 360 degree views and is a great choice being so close to Perugia airport and therefore to Stansted.

An emotional but relaxing day, Andrew & Natalie’s guests had flown in from far and wide including Natalie’s family and a couple of friends from South Africa. They were treated to the wonderful Marco Marconi playing piano during the ceremony and aperitivi and typical but outstanding Umbrian food.

Take a look:

Assisi is one of my favourite towns. Castello di Petrata sits high in the hills just behind the town:

Wedding Photographer: La Badia, Orvieto, Umbria: Chris & Van

August 5th, No comments

Andy & Amy were the Wedding Photographers in Orvieto, Umbria, Italy for the wedding of Chris & Van.

Wow – it’s been a wedding whirlwind week away: We’ve done Home (Umbria) to Pompeii – Amalfi – Rome – Liverpool – Bury St Edmunds – Liverpool – Rome – Sorrento – Home. All in 7 days. Unfortunately, one thing that suffers with so much travelling is the blog – many apologies – there’ll be a couple of updates this week.

We travelled to one of our favourite wedding places, Orvieto (where we got married actually!) on one of the hottest days so far this year for Chris & Van’s wedding. They’d chosen the stunning La Badia for their special day – a recommendation of ours and it was amazing! The evening setting for dinner was just beautiful & the Italian’s have the perfect knack of making everything look so classy.

Anyway, on with some images:

Chris never once appeared nervous.

One of my favourites. This is a table-detail image. The camera is focussed on the nearest table whilst showing the entire scene. Chris & Van entering the room to see their tables for the first time finishes it off for me.

Wedding Photographer: Castiglione del Lago & Il Borgia, Lake Trasimeno, Umbria, Italy: Charles & Ellie

Amy was the Wedding Photographer at Castiglione del Lago & Il Borgia, Lake Trasimeno, Umbria, Italy for the wedding of Charles & Ellie.

Wouldn’t like to speak too soon but I reckon, as far as wedding photographers go, I’m pretty lucky. Sunny and hot for the wedding in Malcesine on Monday followed by heavy storms and rain later in the week, followed by a baking-hot day for the wedding of Charles & Ellie on Saturday. Almost on my doorstep, a castle in Umbria on the shores of Lake Trasimeno played host to the wedding party and guests, with a trip to the beautiful town of Castiglione del Lago thrown in. Charles and Ellie actually had two ceremonies: a legally-binding civil ceremony in Castiglione del Lago followed by a blessing at the castle. They really made the most of their wedding day as preparations for the midday ceremony were well underway when I arrived before 10am, and the party was just getting going when I left after 10pm.

Here’s a sneak preview.

Wedding photographer: Monte Castello di Vibio & Fattoria di Vibio, Todi, Umbria, Italy: Mark & Nicola

July 8th, 4 comments

Andy & Amy were the wedding photographers at Monte Castello di Vibio & Fattoria di Vibio, Todi, Umbria, Italy for the wedding of Mark & Nicola.

Mark & Nicola were married on Thursday in the beautiful church at Monte Castello di Vibio near Todi in Umbria. It’s a stunning little village perched on a hilltop and also home to the smallest theatre in the world which is 200 years old this year. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed drinks in the tiny square outside the church and then, following an invitation, we walked through the cobbled streets for some photographs with the couple and their guests in the theatre itself. The reception was at the stunning Fattoria di Vibio.

Mark was obviously a challenge to photograph – not!

Once Nicola was ready, there was literally just a few minutes to grab some images before we had to jump in the car and race off to the town. Here’s one of our favourites.

The streets of Monte Castello di Vibio are particularly tiny. It took over 5 minutes for the driver of the Bentley to get through this gap (with the assistance of a number of lookouts!) He didn’t actually fit through the first time he tried and slightly scratched the car!

We normally say that there has to be a reason to put a photo-journalistic image in colour. Here’s a great example: blue sky, pink dresses & warmth of the sun on the church stone.

It’s a beautiful church & the ceremony was very personal. The couple had ‘persuaded’ their own priest to travel out with them – no doubt it was a tough decision on his part ;)

Here’s a beautiful image, straight out of camera, from inside the theatre. We’ve done some others which show the guests all seated which look fantastic. The kindness of the locals to allow us to do this kind of thing is something that never ceases to amaze us.

A really beautiful wedding in stunning locations. We only live an hour away from Monte Castello di Vibio and yet we’ve never been there before this. It’s now firmly on our ‘friends & family’ list of places to see in Umbria!

Enjoy your honeymoon folks – we’ll catch up with you once you’re home. – Andy

Wedding photographer: La Badia, Orvieto, Umbria, Italy: Paddy & Annabel

Andy & Amy were the wedding photographers at La Badia, Orvieto, Umbria, Italy for the wedding of Paddy & Annabel.

Our busiest period of this year will probably be that which has just ended. But how many photographers can have been as privileged as us to have worked at so many incredible venues in such a short space of time?!

It was quite a coincidence that one year after our own wedding in Orvieto, we were back in that very town for Paddy & Annabel’s wedding at La Badia. This Abbey, originally constructed in the 6th Century, is a beautiful wedding venue and one which we’ve often looked over towards from Orvieto. The weather wasn’t particularly kind in the period before the ceremony with some particularly heavy rain, but in true romantic fashion, the clouds cleared and the sun came out before everyone left the chapel. Actually, since I was outside at the time watching (& photographing!) the ceremony from a different view point, I can testify that the sun appeared for the first time, within seconds of Paddy & Annabel being pronounced “husband & wife.”

So, we’ve got a lot of great images – mostly photojournalistic this time, to share.

La Badia. It was raining steadily when I took this from the middle of the main road on our way to La Badia from Orvieto – a more dangerous photograph than you may imagine.

Although we often prefer photojournalistic images in black & white, the colours here are wonderful. I’m not certain this is telling us just how heavy the rain was however!!

The car was a surprise for Annabel after leaving the chapel and it enabled the happy couple to enjoy a few moments completely alone before returning for drinks (…and photographs!) I was particularly pleased to have squeezed the Italian numberplate into this image.

Whilst the band played (they’d setup inside since the weather wasn’t predictable), the guests were able to listen and enjoy their drinks & canapes outside in the courtyard.

Another jump on towards the end of the evening. You may have needed to have been there to appreciate this image, but to explain: it’s a hundred or so guests outside, under the arches of the Abbey, reeling; they had so much fun, they didn’t want to stop. I can also spot Amy (who, due to being short) is standing on a table in the background next to a video-light.

Once more, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – thank you to Paddy & Annabel and their friends & families for making us feel so welcome (and to the kind lady who insisted I have some wedding cake :) ) – Andy
